Mother’s Day has always been such a special holiday to me. For years my mom and I plan a time around Mother’s day to spend time together and celebrate each other as moms. I’m so fortunate that my parents live locally so I can see them often. I’m also fortunate that my mom and I have a good relationship. She is one of my best friends today.
But it wasn’t always that way. Saying that my teenage years were rocky is an understatement. My mom and I had conflicts constantly-even into my 20’s. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it.” I know my mom stood on that scripture verse all the years that I was so rebellious and my actions were so contrary to the Christian home my parents raised me in.
There was tears, frustration and anger on both sides between my mom and me during these years, but my mom stayed faithful in prayer and chose to believe God for a miracle. Well, she got her miracle. I’m so happy these days. I have a great marriage and a really good relationship with my own boys despite the challenges that teenage-hood brings. Most importantly though, I LOVE JESUS with my whole heart and I seek to serve him in everything I do. During that time, my mom stood on this scripture verse from Mark 11:24, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
2 Timothy 1: 5 says, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” I’m so fortunate this is my family legacy and I’ll forever be grateful to my mom for this.
If you have a wayward child or a strained relationship with your son or daughter, KEEP PRAYING and ask others to believe and pray with you. Jeremiah 29:12 says this, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” God loves your child more than you can fathom. If you have a good relationship with your children, rejoice and thank God. 3 John 1:4 says, I have no greater joy than this: to hear that my children are living according to the truth.” Don’t forget to praise God for the blessing of your children.
As I write this on Mother’s Day morning, I’m sick with Covid. (I got a positive test the day before Mother’s Day) I was initially so disappointed. We had planned to go to church and out to dinner today. However, the joy of the Lord is in my heart because my boys love me so much. They’ve been praying for me. We are going to relax at home and just enjoy being together.
Isaiah 41:10 is the verse that I’m praying right now. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Let this be your prayer when it comes to your children. Jesus knows your heart and the heart of your child(ren) and God is faithful to His people in ALL things!
Thank you, Danielle for this word from you and the Lord. The Lord will bless you and keep you and shine His favor upon you this day and always!
This was really good mom. I’m so proud of you.
It is great that you and your Mom have the relationship you do today. God never stops loving us and Mom’s and Dad’s never stop loving their kids even when times are tough and your Mom didn’t either! God’s word that you used in your blog to illustrate this were great reminders of this all to us all.
Thanks Danielle for sharing such good message.
Let’s pray for quick recovery
Thank you!
